Welcome to the Algarve

We will meet at Faro Airport. After arriving, you will be transported to the accommodation where you will do the check-in and meet your guides and fellow swimmers for a safety briefing and discussion about the week ahead.

Following this, we have a short acclimatisation swim in the sea before dinner, on the accommodation balcony, where we can watch the sunset.

The Gateway to the Adventure

Today marks the start of our southern Portugal coastal swim. We start out from directly in front of Praia da Dona Ana, in Lagos, and swim out from the beach. Our first target point is the Ponta da Piedade Lighthouse, opened in 1913 to warn of invasion from the sea. We’ll journey along the coast, passing stunning rock formations. This section of the coastline has a series of sea arches along the way which make ideal stopping off points.

After some time in Lagos to have lunch and relax, we carry our journey on the west side of the rocky and isolated Ponta da Piedade, with private beaches only accessible by sea.

The Hidden Paradise

Today we carry on heading Portimão. This section features rocky islets and swim throughs between beaches. Keep an eye out for the quaint caves carved out by seawater. We ended up at Praia João de Arens.

In the afternoon we will complete a fabulous coastal swim between Praia do Vau and the point from where we finished the morning. Watching the coastline plunge far below the surface is a truly wonderful sight.

Day 4

Discover the Greatest Sea Cave

From Praia da Marinha, we swim due west aiming for the most famous cave in the Algarve: Algar de Benagil. We can stop for coffee on the beach before we leave.

After lunch we will do a short walk across the steep underwater cliffs come into view as we reach Carvoeiro, as well as piled up boulders which dot this stretch of coastline.

In the afternoon, we will return to Vila do Bispo, an isolated place overlooking the Atlantic. Here, we will swim along one of the most dramatic coasts in Furnas and finishing the swim under the ruins of a 17th-century fortress, a truly spectacular experience.

Day 5

Explore Lost treasures

The last full day of the trip involves a coastal swim which finishes at the stunning Sagres Bay. It’s a very special place to mark the westernmost point of our Algarve adventure.

We pass sea caves, islets, promontories and a wonderful assortment of underwater topography. A highlight will be the swimming between the Fortaleza de Sagres and the cape located in the extreme southwest of Portugal, Cabo de São Vicente.
